Sightseeing: Stay with us at Wootton Bridge, Isle of Wight, UK (1)

Rating: 0 [-] [+]
A charming village on the north coast of the Isle of Wight located amidst beautiful countryside. The lovely Wootton Creek and Mill Pond forms the eastern boundary of the village, the Creek being used by yachtsmen and boaters. The Millpond is home to herons, egrets and kingfishers, with the surrounding countryside home to red squirrels.

Wootton is blessed with not only a beautiful setting but some very ancient history – its creek has been used as a waterway and port for thousands of years. The Romans landed cargo here; King Canute is said to have come ashore here; and the monks from nearby Quarr Abbey, who owned the mill, had a fishery at the creek mouth.

The village has a mixture of modern and Victorian buildings including the 11th century Parish Church of St. Edmunds, and The Sloop Inn in Mill Square. Also of interest is the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, with its Station and connections to Havenstreet.

For walkers and ramblers there are many walks both within and around the village, including our own Heritage Trail. Also of interest is Firestone Copse with picnic sites and walks, with views across the Millpond.

A truly special place.
